Duman
Between Turkish folk and grunge
If you've heard Duman's music, you won't be surprised to find out that singer/guitarist Kaan Tangöze used to live in Seattle in the early nineties. His particular sound and that of his band is unmistakably reminiscent of early Pearl Jam. However, the group is also inspired by the rich, seemingly inexhaustible Turkish folk music tradition. That's why Duman presents itself first and foremost as an Anatolian rock band. The group's released seven albums, including a live album. Duman perform in a typical rock format with two guitars, bass guitar and drums.
Mor ve Ötesi
Melodious rock
Catchy tunes and meaningful lyrics are Mor ve Ötesi's trademark. The band has released seven albums, the fourth of which sold no less than 250,000 copies. Many of the songs on that album concerned the Iraq war. Their fifth CD Büyük Düşler was named Album of the Year by the Turkish edition of Rolling Stone magazine. In 2008 Mor ve Ötesi came seventh at the Eurovision Song Contest. BBC’s Terry Wogan described the singer as "a sinister James Bond". Mor ve Ötesi's music offers melodious anthems and solid rock music.
